The President's Body Guard

  T he  President's Bodyguard (PBG) is an elite  household cavalry   regiment  of the  Indian Army . It is senior-most in the  order of precedence  of the units of the Indian Army. The primary role of the President's B odyguard is to escort and protect the  President of India  which is why the regiment is based in the  Rashtrapati Bhavan  in  New Delhi ,  India . It is equipped as a mounted unit, with horses for ceremonies at the presidential palace and  BTR-80  vehicles for use in combat. The personnel of the regiment are also trained as paratroopers and nominally are expected to lead in airborne assaults in the role of pathfinders.   Para (Special Forces), commonly known as Para SF, is the special operations unit of the  Indian Army . It is attached to the  Parachute Regiment . The unit's heritage stems from World War II, with the creation of the 50th Parachute Brigade in October 1941. 9 Para SF, raised in 1966 as 9th Parachute Commando Battalion, is the oldest among the eight Para SF units of the Indian Army. The parachute units of the Indian Army are among the oldest airborne units in the world.   The  Parachute Regiment is an  airborneforces  and  specialforces   regiment  of the  Indian Army . World War 2 The first Indian airborne formation was the  British Indian Army 's  50th Parachute Brigade  raised on 29 October 1941, consisting of 151 Parachute Battalion (consisting of British troops), 152 Parachute Battalion (consisting of Indian troops) and 153 Parachute Battalion (consisting of Gurkha troops) alongside other support units. Lt. (later Col.) A.G. Rangaraj, MVC, of the Indian Medical Service and RMO of 152 Parachute Battalion, became the first Indian along with Hav. Maj. Mathura Singh to make a parachute descent.
